From the beginning of 2015 the Google Gmail app for Android gave its users the chance to manage their non-Gmail accounts as Yahoo and Outlook ones.
Now the company decided to make a further step forward. Google announced “Gmailify” a new service that allows everyone to use the Gmail features, as the spam protection, the arrangement of the incoming mail, Google Now integrations and much more without having to change your email address.
This means that you can check your Yahoo, Hotmail and Outlook accounts directly from the Gmail mobile app, managing them as if they were all hosted on Google servers.
A great idea, that comes in handy for all those who would like to have the functions offered by Google keeping their email address.
If you already use a non-Gmail account on the Google app, you may activate these new features following some simple steps. To do it you need to open the Gmail app, log into your account and activate the “Gmailify” option, here’s the Google post with the detailed infos.
As we already said this function will let you have the same kind of arrangement for all your mailboxes, the email as a matter of fact will be labelled (i.e. social, updates, promotions). Moreover you will be able to sear your “non-Gmail” account using advanced search providers, receiving better notifications on your phone, and things as your flight reservation will automatically appear on Google Now.
In any case Google is not the only one trying to satisfy its “non-client” with this kind of solutions. Even other providers are working hard to give everyone the chance to use their app even with a different domain. Last December, for example, Yahoo announced that their mobile app dedicated to the email management will let the Gmail users to operate on their account, giving them the chance to utilize features like the Yahoo “smart” contacts and password-less access. Meanwhile, Outlook, owned by Microsoft, offers an import tool to make the transition from Gmail easier.
As for now “Gmailify” works only with Yahoo and Microsoft Hotmail/Outlook, but Google assures that soon many other providers will be made available.
