Canonical presented its new tablet running Ubuntu as its OS.
We are talking about a modified version of the prexisting model Aquaris M10.
The new Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet is 246 x 171 x 8.2mm, with a 10.1 inches multi-touch screen, a 1.5GHz MediaTek Quad Core MT8163A processor, 7280mAh “Li-Po” batteries, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage, upgradable up to 64GB trough a MicroSD card.
Moreover the tablet offers an 8 megapixel rear camera with autofocus that can record Full HD (1080p) videos, a 5 megapixel front facing camera, frontal speakers and a Micro HDMI slot.
Ubuntu is a very light OS and should work without any kind of problem on this hardware. The device is thick just 8,2mm and its weight is 470g, works as a tablet if used as a standalone, but switches to a PC mode when a wireless mouse and keyboard are connected or if connected to an external monitor, working to all effects as an Ubuntu PC.
A very interesting software feature, when the tablet is used as PC, is the so called “Side Stage”, which gives the possibility to the user to execute two different apps one next to the other taking advantage of a bigger screen compared to the device’s one. The Ubuntu version on the tablet includes a lot of desktop apps and thin client, file browsing and a suite to create and manage files, an app shop and grants access to Ubuntu’s securityupdate service.
As for now we still don’t have an exact date for the release nor a price for the device, but the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition will probably be avaliable in the second quarter of this year trhough the BQ website.

Si tratta in realtà di una versione modificata di un modello esistente, l'Aquaris M10.

Ubuntu è leggero come sistema operativo e dovrebbe funzionare senza problemi su questo hardware. Il dispositivo è spesso 8,2 millimetri e pesa 470g, funziona in modalità tablet quando viene utilizzato stand-alone, ma passa a una modalità PC finestra quando un mouse e tastiera wireless sono collegati, o quando è collegato un monitor esterno, diventando a tutti gli effetti un PC Ubuntu.
Una feature software molto interessante, quando il tablet viene utilizzato in formato PC, è quella che Canonical chiama "Side Stage", che offre, la possibilità di eseguire due applicazioni una di fianco all'altra in modo da sfruttare meglio lo schermo più grande rispetto a quello del dispositivo. L'installazione di Ubuntu presente sul tablet comprende la gamma completa di applicazioni desktop e thin client, browsing di file tra cui la creazione di file e di gestione, un negozio di applicazioni e l'accesso al servizio di aggiornamento di sicurezza di Ubuntu.
Al momento non abbiamo la conferma di una data precisa di rilascio o il prezzo, ma l'Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition sarà sicuramente disponibile nel secondo trimestre tramite il sito web di BQ.
