A couple of days ago Intel presented its new line of Xeon D processors, based on the Broadwell architecture, of which a couple SoC for the microservers market.
Among all stands out the D-1587, a processor which makes power and efficiency two of its peculiarity.
We are talking about a CPU with 16 physical cores and 32 logic threads with a 1.7GHz clock and 24MB of cache, all this in only 65W TDP, really outstanding.
It follows another model, the Xeon D-1577 with the same specifics, with 16 cores and 32 thread and 24MB of cache, but with a lower clock, 1.3GHz, which allows to further lower the TDP to 45W.
The new Xeon-D processors by Intel will come in a BGA package, which means you will need to buy them directly from AIB Intel partners, as SuperMicro, GIGABYTE and others.
As much as the price is concerned you can look at the table above, the Xeon D-1571 will cost $1222, we can expect then that the Xeon D-1587 might come at an even higher price.
