DOOM: AMD beats Nvidia in 4K

We already talked about DOOM, of the iDTech6 graphic engine and about how iDSoftware is sure that it could be so optimized to assure a constant 69fps in 1080p, well at GameGPU they tested it obtaining fairly unexpected results.
The graphic engine iDTech6 seems to favor the AMD hardware and the fps differences are noticeable in every in-game resolution, it has to be said although that those data are to be taken with the due precautions, since the game is still in the alpha phase and it lacks all the specific optimization that will be available for the different platform on the release date, so don’t worry, things will just get better.

This is the test hardware that has been used for these tests, moreover I’d like to remember that the game has been tested in maximum details and all the filter active, included the anti-aliasing:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-5960X
  • Motherboard: GIGABYTE X99 UD7 WIFI
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR4 2666 MHz
  • Storage: OCZ Vertex 120 GB SSD (x3)
  • Driver NVIDIA: NVIDIA GeForce/ION Driver 361.75
  • Driver AMD: Radeon Crimson Edition 16.11.1
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro
Let’s see the final results at various resolutions:

As we can clearly see by the pictures above, AMD beats Nvidia on every resolutions, in 1080p the top AMD GPUs are the only ones that ensured the 60fps, both minimum and average, we can easily notice that there are no higher values than 60fps, so probably the framerate have been locked to that value.
There are no difference for the 1440p, where AMD keeps the lead on Nvidia, with differences up to 10 fps, same results for the 4K, were although no GPU allows to reach 60fps.
In short, as we already mentioned before those are all values that have to be taken into account but for sure will not be the final values, since we are talking about an alpha and there is no optimization, you just need to look at how some multi-GPU solutions are behind other single GPUs to understand what I’m talking about.

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-5960X
  • Motherboard: GIGABYTE X99 UD7 WIFI
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR4 2666 MHz
  • Storage: OCZ Vertex 120 GB SSD (x3)
  • Driver NVIDIA: NVIDIA GeForce/ION Driver 361.75
  • Driver AMD: Radeon Crimson Edition 16.11.1

DOOM in 1080p with "60 FPS" EVERYWHERE

"Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps",
This is what Billy Khan, chief of the development team for DOOM by iDSoftware said on the Bethesda blog.
"We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second"
Those are strong statements, one thing is to talk about your product and all the innovation that your graphic egine could bring to the table, a different thing is to compare yourself to the others, but clearly at iDSoftware they are really confident of the achieved results for this 4th chapter of this shooter.

I’ll remember you what are the system requirements announced by the software house:

Minimum Requirements 720p
OS: Windows 7 64bit or better
CPU: Intel Core i5 at 3.3 GHz, AMD FX-8350 at 4 GHz or better
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2 GB VRAM)
HDD: 6GB

Suggested Requirements 1080p
OS: Windows 7 64bit or better
CPU: Intel Core i7 at 3.4 GHz,  AMD FX-8350 at 4+ GHz or better
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 or AMD R9 280 (3+ GB VRAM)
HDD: 6GB

In any case, DOOM, will come for all the platforms May 13th, I, personally, am not a fan of this kind of games, but if the statement by iDSoftware will be true it looks like it will raise the bar for all those game developers that even after more than a year after their release keep having optimization problems.
Here’s a video of the first 18 minutes of gameplay of this title, mixed between the different game modes.

Requisiti Minimi 720p
OS: Windows 7 64bit o superiore
CPU: Intel Core i5 a 3.3 GHz, AMD FX-8350 a 4 GHz o superiore
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 o AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2 GB VRAM)
HDD: 6GB

Requisiti Consigliati 1080p
OS: Windows 7 64bit o superiore
CPU: Intel Core i7 a 3.4 GHz,  AMD FX-8350 a 4+ GHz o superiore
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 o AMD R9 280 (3+ GB VRAM)
HDD: 6GB
