High-End ALL RED Rig!

Here we are with a new Gaming Rig, as the title suggests, today we propose a PC completely based on AMD products, trying to select the components even according on their color, trying to recall the RED color.
Why a full AMD PC? Well not everyone likes the BLUE or GREEN, and just as a curiosity, did anyone notice that the social colors of AMD, Nvidia and Intel are the RGB colors???... Enough said, let’s go straight to the components, as always, picked thanks to the help of PcPartpicker.

Type Item Price
CPU AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor €157.29

Total €1405.63

Let’s see the chosen parts in details.

As for the CPU we went with an FX-8350, an 8 core with 4.0GHz and 4.2GHz in boost and unlocked multiplier, as all the AMD CPUs.
Even if a little old as architecture this CPU is capable of excellent performances in game, moreover the 8 cores come in handy if you are heavy multitasking users.

The chosen motherboard is the MSI 990FXA-Gaming, a solid motherboard with a good quality/price ratio. As the CPU the chipset and socket are a bit old but this model has modern features, as 3.1 USB ports, Ethernet KILLER Lan E2200, Crossfire and SLI compatibility and so on.

The memories picked for this set up are the Kingstone Savage, a 16GB DDR3 kit at a frequency of 2400MHz.
Those are excellent RAMs, with good overclock results, moreover the heatsink is low profile and it goes well with our color scheme.

As CPU cooler we went with an AIO kit, the Raijintek TRITON.
This liquid cooler comes with a 240mm aluminum radiator, transparent tubes, CPU block and a pump with see-through integrated reservoir and contact base in nickel-plated copper. The choice went on this model because it’s possible to color the cooling liquid through the dye flasks that come in the box in Red, Green or Blue. Again RGB… “Illuminati confirmed”.

As for the storage we went again with a HDD and SSD combo, and again a 1TB WesternDigital caviar blue and a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO.
Obviously if you need more capacity you can go with bigger ones.

For the GPU we liked an Asus one, the R9 Fury STRIX DCU III.
We went with this one because lately the price of the Furys is going down and they have a great value for money, better than the FuryX and is one of the most available, at least here in Italy, furthermore the Asus heatsink can keep the Fiji GPU at optimal temperatures, plus the red and black color scheme is perfect for our “ALL RED” gaming rig.

To power everything we went again with a SuperNova G2 by EVGA, the 750W model. I find them great PSU at the right price.Features as the 100% Japanese capacitors Nippon Chemi-Con and the 10 years warranties, make these PSU often my first choice.

The case that best fit this rig is the Noctis 450 by NZXT. The layout is the one of the H440, with all its features, moreover in the black version, which I went for, mounts red leds under the case and in the NZXT logo on the PSU cover.

Here’s the list of all the parts with the relative prices generated by PcPartPicker for the US shops.

Ancora RGB..."Illuminati confirmed".

Let’s analyze in the detail the components chosen.

As CPU we went with the TOP of the Skylake product range, the i7-6700K, a quad core with HT (4 physic cores and 8 threads) with a stock frequency of 4.0GHz and 4.2GHz in TurboBoost, furthermore it comes with an unlocked multiplier.
For the pure gaming it’s overkill but if you want to stay on a 1151 socket, this is the best "all-purpose"solution.

For the Motherboard we chose an Asus model, (i'm not a fanboy) in particular a very high range one, we are talking about the MAXIMUS VIII HERO of the ROG series.
This MoBo in my opinion does not only look beautiful but is a entirety of features and thanks to the high end components in the VRM assembly will let you OC in all safety.

Thinking about the CPU cooler, we chose the Noctua NH-D14, a dual tower with 120mm and 140mm fans, as we all know Noctua is the leading brand for air cooling, their products are a perfect combination of quality and performance, if you are asking yourself why there is still no AIO I’ll clear it up in an upcoming article.

Our choice for the RAMs went to the G.Skill Trident Z, a 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 kit with a 3200MHz frequency. This memories have one of the most beautiful heatsink design i’ve ever seen and the color scheme is perfectly matching with the one of the chosen mobo.

As for the storage even this time we opted for a SSD and HDD combination.
For the classic HDD we went with a 1TB WD caviar Blue, clearly if you need more capacity you can go with a larger one, for the SSD we liked the Samsung 850 PRO, and not only for the V-NAND used but even because these models have a 10 years warranty and the built-in management software “Magician” will let you have always the best performances thanks to automatic updates.

For the GPU my choice went to the EVGA GTX 980Ti, the Superclocked+ model with backplate.
There is nothing more to add, and there’s no need to explain this choice, for gaming, the only thing better than a 980Ti, is an SLI of 980Tis...

In the PSU sector kept using the EVGA brand with its SuperNova G2 850W, we are talking about a psu with efficiency certification 80+ Gold, capable to deliver all the power that our system needs and giving us an edge to overclock, the oem is SuperFlower and the platform is the one used for the Leadex series, so psus assembled with top range components, with a 10 year warranty and Nippon Chemi-Con capacitors.

Our Case of choice is the Fractal Design Define R5, personally I love this style with clean lines, moreover this case presents valuable features, as dust filters, panels clad with soundproofing materials and so on.

Here’s the list of prices in dollars:

We come to the end, as always you can change any part of the set up, if you have the necessity to get something cheaper without give up important things as CPU and GPU I’d suggest you to cut on the Motherboard, RAM and SSD, for any doubt, request or suggestion feel free to leave us a comment.
